Don’t know what Web 3.0 means yet ? Me too. But this online presentation gives us a pretty good introduction of what it hopes to be.

The best motivational wallpaper, period.

I think this is the best motivational wallpaper. At least it make every sense to me. If I can’t be the person I like to live with, then there’s no longer a purpose. If you are not doing the things you want to do, or should be doing, then you better rethink your life.

Mobile browser with Flash and AJAX support

Finally, the Skyfire mobile browser with Adobe Flash and AJAX support has been released from beta. This means better possibilities for mobile applications. It also means more reasons for you Flash games junkies to play freely. I have tried it and it’s working very well, with the full sound-effect audible! Just watch out your battery usage.

Let see how Opera Mini or Fennec can match up to it soon.

Rapid Transit System ticketing system

For people like me who drive my own car, taking public transport is a rare thing. But I’ve always been amazed by the cleanliness of many Rapid Transit System around the world; and of course, as a geek, I’ve also been curious of the ticket system/kiosk put-in-place.

This is a rare-find – a website here dedicated to the user interface design of the rapid transit system kiosk to be used in the Bay Area (around San Francisco, US). It actually has a simulation of the user interface which you can play with! Woot!

Changing the location of ‘My Documents’ folder

One of the first things I do after installing Windows is to change the location of the My Documents folder. By default, Windows set this folder to C:\Documents and Settings\username\xxxxxx (in Windows XP), or C:\Users\Profile\Documents (In Vista). I find this location hard to navigate to (imagine typing this path in those File Open/Save dialog), and not portable. I’ve been using D:\Doc as my default documents location since many years ago, short and sweet.

To change the default path for your My Documents folder, this website provides an easy guide. Check it out!

The last Google result

This is a rather useless post. But I find it somewhat amusing and educating at the same time.

Have you ever wonder what would be the last result returned by Google Search ? Use this LastGoogle.com to find out.

image

I just gave it a shot and go search for ‘money’. The last result is actually a link to pr0n site, Opps!

Still, this is not all unrelated! Hmm…

image

But wait! It says ‘Number of Results’ is a staggering 1,400,000,000! 1.4 billions results?! And it also says the last displayed result is result number 863, so what gives ?

I retried this by searching at the Google.com using this

http://www.google.com.my/search?q=money&start=1000, asking Google to search and return me the 1000th results and beyond. And it gives me this error.

image

Hmm…. how come I’ve never noticed this before – Google doesn’t return you with more than 1000 results! So what does this tells you? It tells you that there’re probably many undiscovered sites deep in the web.

Why does SMS/text message has 160 characters limit ?

So this is the person who decided that 160 characters is enough for SMS/text message, and the reason behind. Mr. Friedhelm Hillebrand of Germany, back in 1985, based upon not-to-scientific-and-minimal-statistical-data-sampling findings. The link is here.

China Simcities

image

I still have fond memories of playing that game called Simcity (the first classical version), where you play the mayor of your imaginary city, to keep growing the populations, infrastructures and quality of life. Now this site actually render some pretty impressive interactive map of quite a number of PRC’s cities. Just look at the screenshot above – the main finance district in Shanghai. Looking at the details makes me drool. Just look at the Oriental Pearl Tower, or the Shanghai World Financial Center building. Now where did I put my Simcity 4 ...?

Talking about Simcity, you can actually play that classical version online here (free registration required). Though the graphics are a bit outdated, it’s addictive nonetheless.
